A Christmas lesson: biopsy techniques for the young clinician.

چکیده
Skin biopsy 1 Always inject a large volume of local anaesthetic into the area to be biopsied. The more rapid the better, as this really distorts the tissue planes making microscopic evaluation a real challenge. 2 Always biopsy the centre of any ulcer as this will guarantee that the pathologist will not be able to differentiate between a benign or malignant process as he enjoys the vista of necrotic inflammatory tissue. 3 The biopsy specimen should always be razor-thin. Never include the underlying dermis or subcutaneous tissue as this may lead the pathologist to a correct diagnosis. 4 If at all possible inject a tattoo pigment marker before your biopsy. Particularly in the case of Kveim biopsies this extends the pathologist's ability to make a diagnosis without the help of artificial light.

Orthopaedic surgeons are smarter than anaesthetists. Twenty seven is not a dangerous age for famous musicians. The oral health of British people is as good as, if not better than, that of Americans. Men are idiots. These might at first seem rather controversial statements, but all are findings of papers published in Christmas issues of The BMJ. For more than 30 years the festive issue of the jo...

متن کاملSurgical views: techniques for laparoscopic and laparoscopic assisted biopsy of abdominal organs.
Multiorgan pathology is a common finding during the diagnostic work-up of complex medical diseases in small animals. Collection of cytologic or biopsy samples from several abdominal organs can give the clinician crucial information in guiding therapy. Although many modalities are available for sample collection, laparoscopic and laparoscopic-assisted techniques offer a minimally invasive approa...

BACKGROUND Self-collection of anorectal swab specimens could greatly facilitate the completion of prerequisite studies and future implementation of anal cancer screening among men who have sex with men (MSM). We therefore compared self- versus clinician- collection procedures with respect to specimen adequacy for cytological evaluation, concordance of paired cytological results, and concordance...
